AUTISM+

The Davis Autism Approach programme provides gentle, practical support for autistic children, teenagers, and adults. The term Autism+ refers to the various programs targeted at varying age groups.  The program is designed to help clients develop life and learning skills, understand their thinking style and navigate the neurotypical world at their own pace. These programmes while having a clear end point of creating lasting positive change in the individual will also provide for gradual ongoing change and improvement as the program unfolds and the individual integrates more effectively with the world. 

Who Can Benefit

The suite of programmes are age based and tailored to the needs of:   
1. Early years learning

2. Teenagers and adults with a diagnosis who want to develop life and learning skills

3.  Non-verbal/non speaking, or minimally verbal children/adults

 

A Practical, Gentle Approach

These programmes identify skills that may be incomplete or underdeveloped and help clients accept and integrate them into their thinking style. The aim is to respect and acknowledge autistic thinking and to provide the client tools to navigate daily life and learning, more confidently.

 

Parental Involvement

Parents play a vital role in the success of the programme and thus require support throughout.  Parents are required to present for all sessions with a client under 18yrs of age.

Program support includes: 
• Clear guidance and reassurance throughout each stage 
• Short, manageable practical exercises to practice at home 
• Regular follow-up and advice to build confidence in helping their family member

PROGRAM OUTLINES

Programmes for Young Children

This approach in these programmes called Stepping Stones 1 and 2, focuses on gentle, playful methods suitable for children under 8 and or non-verbal learners. The purpose is to promote individuation and begin the process of socialisation.

 

Teenagers and Adults

This programme focus on life skills, social strategies, and independence for older clients. Again the approach is practical and relies on understanding rather than learning sets of rules for social integration.
